I have a nice book that I keep as a mixed media art journal, with a pretty ribbon attached to tie it closed…
Originally it was going to be just for sketches…
but then I got really mad one day and started ripping things apart, like a poster on my wall and a cute gift bag, and created a mini-collage…
Then I decided I could add in anything, like a Denny’s placemat I colored in while I was waiting for my food…
I could use stencils and squiggles to create something crazy…
I could use leftover supplies from one project to create another…
and I could even illustrate phrases from poetry I’ve written…
I created one picture with just stickers…
and another had the intention of being a star but got messed up, and I learned to see that as beautiful too…
Some things are a mish-mash that seems to make no sense (but they are still art, because I say so)…
I can make art that is mostly words if I want to…
as long as I am true to myself, anything goes. I call it my art journal because a lot of the entries came about as the result of something I was feeling. And because until now, nobody has been allowed a peek inside. I am laying myself out there, unafraid of what people might think. These images are snapshots of me at various times in the past almost-five years and I make no explanations or apologies.
I have two rules with my art journal. Everything has a name, and everything has a date.
Michelle-Thanks for stopping by my blog. I like what you have done with your journal pages. My intention is to start one in January. There have been so many great pages shared during AEDM. I am retired from teaching and work part time in our towns public library children's department. I see where you are a children's librarian.
I saw from a comment you made that you are new to AEDM, welcome! All the wonderful journal like yours have made me actually want to start a multimedia journal. At least it would give me a place to keep all the litle bits that I create.
Thanks for the kudos. I love posting comments on other peoples' blogs and getting comments in reply… I get so happy and feel so much love when I read sweet things about my art!Susie, I am a children's librarian in Yonkers, NY. I have been at this job for about a year and a half.
I really LOVE your journal pages! Thanks for sharing!
